Playa Viva

Playa Viva is 5-star resort as well as an eco-luxury sustainable boutique hotel with a focus on positive social and environmental Impact for their local ecosystem. At Playa Viva you are immersed in the luxury of the natural landscape on 200 acres with almost a mile of pristine beachfront set at the base of the Sierra Madre Mountains rising in the distance.

Playa Viva tends to the land in regenerative ways to create opportunities for you to explore the diverse ecosystem, to walk away with valuable and shareable knowledge and to inspire guests to think through ways you can make similar impacts in your own communities.

Playa Viva takes much pride in their Turtle Sanctuary, “La Tortuga Viva” (LTV) founded in 2010 to protect turtles from predators and poachers alike. LTV is staffed by an all-volunteer team composed of members of the local community of Juluchuca. Playa Viva supports the sanctuary by helping to raise funds for needed equipment. The volunteers patrol the beach at night to look for turtles or turtle tracks, to collect nests buried in the sand, and to bring these eggs to the sanctuary just as the mother turtle left them. The eggs are kept safe within a protected incubation sanctuary that keeps them out of the reach from the real and imminent danger of predators and poachers. LTV releases baby turtles to the ocean every morning. During our stay, we are invited to join the volunteers to release the baby turtles to the sea, this is truly an experience of a lifetime.

Sakyong Mipham

Morning Sun practice
led by Shayne Cohen

Vinyasa Yoga is an energetic form of yoga where students fluidly move from one pose to the next while synchronizing their breath to their movements. Shayne’s classes integrate a dynamic flow with the application of precise alignment, meditation, visualization, intention and chanting to create an inner journey towards healing and empowerment.

Classes begin with chanting to prepare the mind for a deeper state of consciousness and meditation during asanas (physical practice.) Shayne likes her students to recognize yoga as a sacred practice, she believes if it’s not devotional then it’s not yoga. Each class is designed to systematically stimulate the organs, glands, nervous system and move freshly oxygenated blood to the entire body as you release tension and simultaneously develop faith and intuition.

Sacred Ceremonies

Kirtan is a sing-along of mantras, through which we find our way back to our core, our heart and our relationships with each other.

Chanting mantras connect us with the spiritual wisdom. These ancient chants contain a transformative power and healing energy. We will sing, drum and dance to express our love and devotion.
